History
East Dallas Community School (EDCS) is an early childhood learning center with programs to meet the needs of children from birth to age nine. The school was founded in 1978 for the specific purpose of proving that all children, regardless of race or income, can succeed in school when we start young and involve parents.
From its humble beginnings of educating a single class of eight children in donated space, East Dallas Community School has expanded to a 7 classroom campus serving just over one hundred low-income, inner city children. In August 1999, East Dallas Community School opened a second campus, a public charter school that replicates the academic programs and success of the privately funded model. Together the two campuses of East Dallas Community School serve more than 250 children and their parents.
